Democracy Monument

The monument was built in the reign of King Rama VIII in 1939, to commemorate the change of politics from absolute monarchy to constitutional democracy in 1932. The monument was designed by Professor Silpa Phirasri, its design relates to the historic revolution event.

The 24 meters height of wing – shaped poles means the date of the event, June 24. The 75 canons around its base came from the last two digits of 2475, the year of the event in Buddhist era. The 6 swords over the doors means six major policies assigned by the people’s party. The wing – shaped poles symbolizes freedom and right of people.
